A rare Pfennig from Neuenburg
Lot 3559
GERMANY, Breisgau. Neuenburg, circa 1320. Vierzipfliger Pfennig (Silver, 18 mm, 0.31 g). Rooster to left within circle. Rev. Incuse of obverse. Matzke 168. Meyer 6/168. Marti 111. Rare. Very fine.

From the collection of a Swiss scholar, formed over the past thirty years.

Scholars had previously considered Münstertal in the Black Forest as a possible origin for these coins, but the consensus now leans toward attributing them to Neuenburg am Rhein.
